ITV bosses have defended airing Emma and Terry's night of passion in the Love Island 2016 villa.
The pair had sex in the bedroom in full view of their fellow Islanders who were taken aback by the the couple's lack of inhibition.
Online and some viewers compared the scenes to 'soft porn' but an ITV insider told The Sun newspaper: "The focus on what was shown was the reaction of the islanders rather than what Emma and Terry were doing."
A spokesperson for the channel added that the shots were "inexplicit" and that they were not aware of any official viewer complaints over the show, which was fully compiled for broadcast.
In the villa itself, Terry and Emma's romp caused quite a stir.
Emma admitted in the Beach Hut that her dad would be less than impressed, saying: “Me and Terry had a bit of a kiss and a cuddle when we went upstairs last night. My pops is very disapproving, so he won’t like that very much.”
She later confessed to Olivia: “I’m well p***ed off with myself this morning.”
Olivia comforted her and replied: “Sex is a huge part of a relationship. Just because you’re on TV, how can you forget about that?”
Emma agreed, saying: “Why am I even here if I’m going to sit and think about the outside world constantly.”
Feeling better about the situation, Emma told Terry: “At the end of the day, I don’t regret anything and I’m certainly not going to sit in here regretting it and let it ruin my day.”
Love Island continues nightly on ITV2.
