Miss GB bosses de-crowned the 20-year-old last week after she had sex with Alex on the ITV2 reality show, claiming they "cannot promote Zara as a positive role model moving forward".
But Zara reckons that if the tables were turned and Alex had been the pageant winner, there wouldn't be as much of a furore.
In an interview with the Radio Times, she said: "I just think if a boy was the equivalent – a ‘Mr Great Britain’ – would he have really have had his title taken away from him?
"Because there hasn’t been anything in the press about Alex, it was all just about me. It was all just Zara. It takes two to tango.
"Hand on my heart, I do think it’s different standards. It’s hard to answer because Alex isn’t the equivalent – a ‘Mr GB’ – but I think it’s very interesting. Very, very interesting."
"We allowed Zara to take part in the show on the condition that she didn't have sex – she knows she cannot do anything to bring the competition into disrepute," a spokesperson said in a statement.
Zara has now been succeeded as Miss GB by last year's runner-up Deone Robertson, who has supported the decision to axe her.
