Fans of Zara Holland have SLAMMED Miss Great Britain's decision to 'de-crown' her after Love Island.

This week on the ITV2 show we saw Zara 'get intimate' with new guy Alex just 24 hours after he entered the villa.

On this evening's episode, Zara expressed MAJOR regrets about staying the night in the hideaway and those regrets are sure to only increase when she finds out she's now longer Miss GB.

The organisers said in a statement that they had not taken the decision lightly but explained: "The feedback we have received from pageant insiders and members of the general public is such that we cannot promote Zara as a positive role model moving forward.

“We wholly understand that everyone makes mistakes, but Zara, as an ambassador for Miss Great Britain, simply did not uphold the responsibility expected of the title.”

Many slammed the move including Love Island host Caroline Flack who tweeted: "Feel even more sorry for Zara now she's been de-crowned. She's a very sweet girl . What even is 'miss GB' ? Are we living in the dark ages ?

Thousands more tweeters piled in to support Zara too with Chlo reacting: "@Official_MissGB I think what you have done to Zara is disgusting! Sex is normal thing in every day life for everyone!

Hayley Joeann ‏added: "@Official_MissGB I've never read something so ridiculous."

Beth wrote: "@Official_MissGB THATS AN ABSOLUTE JOKE. SHE IS A WOMAN. SHE CAN DO WHAT SHE WANT. ITS A NATURAL THING THAT HAPPENS BETWEEN TWO PEOPLE"

With the backlash growing, the Miss Great Britain team tweeted: "To be clear we have no problem at all with sex-it is perfectly natural. We simply can't condone what happened on national tv."

Some did feel it was the right decision, with Suthers81 posting: "Everyone is talking stupid! If I had sex on tv I would also get the sack! You as a person when working for ANY company are representing them"

Love Island 2016 continues nightly on ITV2.
