Russell Kane and Katie Price have become the first celebrities to be voted into the Let's Dance for Comic Relief 2011 final in the first show of the brand new series. The pair, who were amongst six celebrities to perform in tonight's opening show, will go on to compete in the grand final next month.
Russell Kane achieved the most votes and was therefore automatically through to the final. Katie Price and the cast of Waterloo Road were the acts with the next two highest number of votes and it was up to the judges - comedians Graham Norton, Frank Skinner and Greg Davies - to pick which went through.
Graham saved Katie, saying: "Because she has earned her place on live pre-watershed television."
Next, Frank Skinner said: "It's difficult... I mean I'd love to see Philip [Martin] do the break-dance again but I thought Katie [Price] was marvellous so I'm saving her." The two votes to save Katie meant Greg Davies did not need to vote.
Russell performed to Crazy in Love by Beyoncé on the show, while Katie Price performed the Queen hit I Want to Break Free.
Next week will see celebrities including Noel Fielding and Penny Smith, with music from McFly and Cee Lo Green.
Red Nose Day takes place on Friday 18 March on BBC One.
