Let It Shine's first results are in and five contestants are out following the opening live show.

This evening saw the first of three live finals to decide one winning band from the five left in the competition.

The groups going into tonight's live show were Drive, Nightfall, Iron Sun, Five To Five and Neon Panda but only four bands could make next week's semi-final.

In tonight's double bill, each band first performed one song each in the Main Show. After they had all performed once, the viewer vote opened both via phone and for free onine.

In the Let It Shine results show, the three bands with the highest viewer votes were revealed and given a “safe pass” through to next weekend

Those bands were Five To Five, Nightfall and Iron Sun meaning they're safely in the semi-finals.

However the two bands with the lowest viewer votes - Neon Panda and Drive - had to perform again for the judges Gary Barlow, Dannii Minogue, Martin Kemp and - for this week - guest judge Ricki Lake.

The bands drew lots for the songs and the individual lines they sang to make it as fair as possible.

The judges then decided the five best individual boys - rather than the best band - to save based on both their second performances and the performance in the main show.

The boys who were saved were Mark Angels, Jonathan 'Jonnie' Halliwell and Jazzie Mattis from Drive and Matt Thorpe and Conor McLoughlin from Neon Panda. They will form a new look Drive for next weekend's semi-final.

That meant that leaving the show were Neon Panda's Craig Webb, Anthony Sahota and Josh Bailey plus Drive's Jamie Corner and Ryan Butterworth.
