West End performer Matt Thorpe stormed the Let It Shine stage in tonight's auditions.
The 30 year old from London is a professional singer already and has quite the list of credits including American Idiot, Jersey Boys, We Will Rock You and Mammia Mia.
"This is my job," he told the judges. "It'd be great to be in something that's brand new, a British musical by a great songwriter!"
For his audition in front of the Let It Shine judges - Dannii Minogue, Martin Kemp, Amber Riley and Gary Barlow - Matt belted out Alicia Keys' If I Ain't Got You and left all four judges - and the audience on their feet.
Dannii gushed: "With the boy band thing, I have to believe as the girl you're singing it to me, you love me.... I believed it!"
Martin commented: "I got it, they got it, everybody in this whole room got it."
Gary told him: "What you did tonight was absolutely outstanding, well done to you."
When it came to the score, Matt got the maximum of 5 points from all four judges for a total of 20, seeing him sail through to the next round.
Gary previously defended allowing pro performers to audition for his show, saying: "We can’t say, ‘Hey, listen, if you’ve been on a stage before you can’t come in the door’."
He explained: “That’s where you see how important it is to be in these groups and to have the cross section we’ve had – people who’ve never been on a stage, people who’ve performed for 20 years but never been given an opportunity to people who’ve already been in musicals.
"It has to be open to everybody, and it’s important it’s open to everybody for that reason.”
Let It Shine continues Saturday nights on BBC One.
