X Factor's Simon Cowell takes aim at Gary Barlow's Let It Shine - and Dannii Minogue

Mogul admits he's concerned about the amount of rival talent shows

Simon Cowell has taken a swipe at former X Factor judges Gary Barlow and Dannii Minogue over their new show Let It Shine.

And Simon admitted he's concerned about the amount of talent shows on the go.

Next year will see at least five major telly contests involving music - and four of them will be on ITV.

In addition to Simon's shows, The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent, the broadcaster has poached The Voice UK from the BBC - and added childrens' spin-off The Voice Kids.

Simon admits the situation is "insane", telling The Mirror: "That’s what happens unfortunately, but it happens in every genre. I’m not surprised.

"Everyone wants to get in on the act, but the good ones are the ones that will end up surviving.

"Two music shows, no issue, but five shows on at the same time is insane. There’s nothing you can do about it, you’ve got to just try and make your own shows as good as possible."

The fifth is BBC One's Let It Shine, which follows Gary Barlow as he searches for the stars of his upcoming Take That musical.

Gary's hired fellow X Factor star Dannii Minogue as one of his co-judges - a fact which hasn't escaped Simon.

"One of them features two X Factor judges? That’s a bit of a shocker," he said.

The media mogul had an extra dig at Dannii, adding: "I don’t mind about Dannii. Wasn’t Dannii the most popular judge in all the polls? Not in the polls I saw."

ITV recently announced that it has renewed The X Factor and BGT for three more years.
