Nick Knowles has been named the new leader of the I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! camp, with Anne Hegerty becoming his deputy.

After Noel Edmonds lost his position as Emperor, the ITV jungle show held a public poll to determine his successor.

Viewers were able to vote for the celeb they wanted to be camp leader on the official app.

Noel was ineligible to be chosen, as was his former personal advisor Harry Redknapp.

Shortly after the poll closed at 11.30pm last night, John Barrowman revealed the result to the celebs, announcing Nick as their new leader.

The news thrilled the DIY SOS star, who reacted: "It's very lovely of people to vote for me."

His first duty was to name his deputy leader, and she chose Anne.

"I seem to spend so much time doing nothing, so it might be quite nice to be officially allowed to sit around doing nothing," she said.

Although Nick doesn't have the ceremonial title of Emperor, he will enjoy the same luxuries.

He gets to sleep in the camp palace and is exempt from all laborious duties - a thought that worried Emily Atack.

"Nick does so much in the camp that we realised this wasn't good for anyone," she commented. "The camp leader doesn't have to do anything, and Nick does so much!"

Nick and Anne soon had to allocate the chores, choosing John and Sair Khan as the chefs - and not Emily.

"I considered Emily for a long time but then thought it's safest for all of us if it isn't," Nick smirked.

"I knew I wasn't getting cooking because I'm really clumsy and everyone has also worked that out now," she grinned.

Instead, Emily teamed up with Fleur East on cleaning, while Harry and James McVey got dunny duty.

This left Noel, Malique Thompson-Dwyer and Rita Simons to tackle camp maintenance.

It didn't escape Noel that he'd gone from a position of power to serving the almighty leader.

"Can you believe it, I'm now doing housekeeping and got to strip the beds from the palace," he laughed.

It's perhaps no surprise that viewers backed Nick, as earlier this week they helped him reach number one on iTunes.

I'm A Celebrity airs nightly at 9.00pm on ITV, with Extra Camp straight afterwards on ITV2.
