After his co-star Anne Hegerty travelled to the jungle last year, Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett is eyeing up his own stay Down Under.

And it’s not the first time he’s been in talks for the Aussie based reality series.

“They did interview me two years ago but I was 27 stone and they thought, ‘No!’,” Mark told The Sun newspaper. “I’m down to about 23 or 24st now.

“It’s a great opportunity.”

Mark previously told how his weight had seen him ruled out of the show.

In an appearance on ITV’s Loose Women in 2018, Mark explained: “They interviewed me about two years ago and the big minus against me then was my weight.

“They were genuinely concerned that when they’ve had heavier celebrities on before – like Rayzor Ruddock and Colin Baker on there – they shut down with the lack of calories.”

He added: “At that time I was 27 stone, now I’m down to 24 stone.

“It’s a work in progress but hopefully by this time next year it will be like 21 or 22 stone. I know that’s still big, but I’ll be a bit more in condition for it.”

Mark went on to reveal how he had been the one who encouraged Anne to say yes to last year’s season.

“I kind of talked her into it,” he admitted, before confessing he also voted for her to take on one of the trials.

Anne scored just two stars in the task, which saw her covered in slime, fish guts and meal worms.

“I feel guilty that I voted for her,” Mark said.

Also in the jungle last series were TV host Noel Edmonds, football manager Harry Redknapp, Corrie star Sair Khan, TV presenter Nick Knowles, singer Fleur East, popstar James McVey, Hollyoaks actor Malique Thompson-Dwyer, comedy actor Emily Atack, actor & entertainer John Barrowman MBE and actor Rita Simons.

I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here will return in the autumn.

Ant recently confirmed he’d be back hosting the show with Dec after Holly stepped in for him last year.

He said: “That was the great thing about Holly. It was a one-year gig. That was the brief, a one-off. I was thankful that it was her because she was looking after my mate out there and looking after the show.

“And she doesn’t need the work — she can’t get off the telly!”
