I'm A Celebrity 2012 bosses have apparently launched an urgent review into the welfare of contestants after Brian Conley suffered a "meltdown" on the show.
The Sun reports that ITV bosses are keen to ensure that all the correct steps were taken when Brian was given the all clear to go into the jungle last weekend.
An ITV insider told the newspaper this morning: “We have to ask some serious questions about the decision to approve Brian as a contestant.
“Crucial warning signs may have been missed indicating he was not as well-equipped to deal with the situation as some people thought.”
It was reported yesterday that Brian’s wife wanted answers from show bosses after visiting sick Brian in hospital in Australia.
“She couldn’t believe how much he’d changed after ten days in the jungle. He looks really unwell and vulnerable,” a show source told the newspaper.
They added: “He’s lost a lot of weight and is exhausted. Doctors have prescribed lots of rest until he recovers. Anne-Marie was hugely supportive of Brian’s decision to go on the show, but now you can’t blame her wishing he hadn’t.
“She wants to know how this happened and why bosses did not intervene earlier.”
Meanwhile sources in the celebrity camp revealed that Brian's fellow campers haven't been too worried about him.
A source said: “I am sure the celebrities all wish Brian well — but they have not been talking about him, or asking how he is in the Bush Telegraph.”
Brian's agent said in a statement yesterday: “We can confirm Brian Conley has been discharged from hospital and is delighted to be back with his family recuperating.
“He would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes and concern.”
A spokesperson for ITV said: “The safety and welfare of contestants is of paramount importance.
“All are assessed by independent medical experts before contracts are signed, and again before entering the jungle.”
