Ruth Davidson set to appear on celebrity edition of The Great British Bake Off

Scottish Conservatives leader Ruth Davidson is set to take part in a celebrity charity edition of The Great British Bake Off.

According to the BBC, the party has ‘confirmed’ that Ruth will appear in an upcoming episode of the Channel 4 baking contest, as part of the Stand Up To Cancer campaign.

C4, however, is staying tight-lipped on which celebs have signed up. The broadcaster declined to comment when approached by The Sun.

Ruth would not be the first political figure to step in to Bake Off’s famous tent.

Gordon Brown’s wife Sarah Brown took part in 2015, followed by David Cameron’s wife Samantha Cameron in 2016.

Former MP Ed Balls also competed last year, nine months after he was defeated in the 2015 General Election.

However, as the current MSP for Edinburgh Central, Ruth could prove to be one of Bake Off’s most controversial celebrity bookings to date.

The former journalist has previously been involved in the show, appearing as a guest panellist on spin-off An Extra Slice last October before its departure from the BBC.

Other famous faces that have reportedly been approached by bosses include actress Michelle Keegan and reality stars Charlotte Crosby and Stephen Bear.

It is currently unclear when C4 intends to air the new Bake Off celebrity specials.

Some reports suggest they’re coming later this year, while others claim they’re scheduled for early 2018.

They had originally been set to air in August, until the BBC waived a contractual clause which would have prevented the current regular series from being broadcast until 2018.
