Great British Bake Off 2017 bakers face sticky situation with first ever caramel week

Contestants face the first ever caramel week on the Great British Bake Off 2017 tonight.

Following last week’s classic bread week challenges, this evening sees the nine remaining bakers given a Great British Bake Off first.

Restaurateur, food writer and novelist Prue Leith will be joining Paul Hollywood as judge of The Great British Bake Off as it continues tonight on Channel 4.

Prue and Paul will again be joined by new GBBO hosts Sandi Toksvig OBE and Noel Fielding.

They’ll be ready with a pertinent pep talk, a helpful hand or just a sympathetic shoulder to cry on, for what is series 8 of the cooking competition.

Over 10 weeks, the Great British Bake Off 2017 will see 12 of the best amateur bakers in Britain whisk, knead, ice, beat and bake their way through classic British cakes, perfect patisserie, Italian delights, sticky caramel constructions and elaborate layered puddings.

Tonight it’s week four of The Great British Bake Off and just 9 bakers remain after last Tuesday’s third elimination.

For the very first time on the show, it’s caramel week. Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood have set the contestants three sticky challenges.

There’s a super sweet signature with a rich teatime favourite; a double Dutch technical, that has the bakers pressed for time; and a caramel showstopper sure to stick in the memory.

As always, the three challenges will sort out the best bakers from those who are failing to make the grade.

At the end of it all, only one can claim star baker; while another contestant will leave the tent for good.
