Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding are reportedly set to scoop £1 million between them for the Great British Bake Off.
Channel 4 confirmed the pair would be taking over as hosts this week in a surprise announcement.
Sandi Toksvig OBE said: “It is an extraordinary honour to part of this national treasure of a show. Noel Fielding is one of the nicest guys in show business. The first time I met him I felt like I had met a rather wayward cousin whose take on the world made me laugh.
"The only down side is that he has much better dress sense that I do. I spend my daytimes on Channel 4 already so it will be a treat to be there in the evenings. I am so delighted to be working with Love Productions and Channel 4 on this best of British show.”
Noel Fielding added: “GBBO is one of my favourite shows. I’ve always loved brightly coloured cakes and Sandi Toksvig so this is a dream come true for me! It’s basically the double “.
According to The Sun newspaper, the pair didn't come without a price and will be paid a LOT more than Mel & Sue's supposed £100k fee.
Sandi is set to get £750,000 while Noel will earn £250,000 for the first series.
It comes after Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders reportedly turned down a £2.5 million offer.
A source told The Mail on Sunday: “It was never a viable option for them.
“A lot of money was offered, but Channel 4 have bought a turkey.”
“They were the top of the list to replace Mel and Sue," the insider added. They absolutely would have brought in the viewers but it wasn’t to be. An offer was put in – a pretty high offer at that – but it wasn’t enough. The impression was that actually, no amount would have been enough.”
The Great British Bake Off will air on Channel 4 later this year.
