Great British Bake Off 2017 judges: Mary Berry's replacement REVEALED?

Channel 4 has reportedly decided on a replacement for Mary Berry on the Great British Bake Off 2017.

Mary quit the former BBC One show last year when it was revealed it would be moving channels.

Although no official news about her replacement has been announced, Prue Leith has been tipped to take over.

The 76-year-old restaurateur has already appeared on similar programmes, including alongside Mary on the BBC's Great British Menu.

“In cookery circles, she’s practically royalty," a source told The Sun newspaper about Prue. “Both are from similar backgrounds, so hopefully viewers will be accepting and give Prue a chance to win them over.

“Following in Mary’s footsteps is a big challenge. But the producers are confident that Prue has all the attributes.”

Meanwhile it was confirmed last month that a full series of GBBO will air in 2017.

In 2016 news broke that Channel 4 had purchased the rights to the hit baking show in a multi-million pound, three-year deal.

However as part of the BBC's original contract, it had the power to enforce a one year wait before any other channel could air the show.

Now the BBC has revealed it's waived this clause allowing the series to begin on Channel 4 later this year.

An insider told the BBC News: "We don't want to get in the way of them reinventing the programme.

"In this instance, we believe it would be undignified to have one public service broadcaster in a potential dispute with another and the associated costs for each party would ultimately come out of programming budgets.

"We don't believe in driving up costs in the public sector."

As well as changing channels, judge Mary Berry and hosts Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins will be leaving the Great British Bake Off on Channel 4.
