Dawn French says NO to hosting the Great British Bake Off on Channel 4

Dawn French has said she will NOT be hosting the Great British Bake Off on Channel 4.

The much-loved show will head to its new home next year - but presenters Mel and Sue and judge Mary Berry have all quit out of loyalty to the BBC.

Paul Hollywood is the only star that will return to the tent, leaving C4 bosses with three spots to fill.

The Sun had claimed that Mel and Sue could be replaced by fellow comedy duo French and Saunders, known for their BBC sketch show. They are among the bookies' favourites for the hosting gig.

"Dawn and Jennifer would be a dynamite signing," a source said last month. "They have wonderful chemistry, which is what viewers really loved about Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins."

However Dawn French herself has rubbished the suggestion.

"I think that rumour started because what other two girls are there working together?" she said this week. "It's as simple as that. 'Those two, them.' Absolutely not, no."

However unlike the rest of us, Dawn thinks the Bake Off won't be impacted by its move to Channel 4, evne if most of the show's stars have left.

"It'll probably work perfectly nicely on Channel 4," she suggested. "They don't have to get many viewers to be pleased. Mary'll get her own thing and Mel and Sue'll get their own thing and everyone will be happy."
