MTV has announced it will not be airing the new series of Ex On The Beach, which featured Mike Thalassitis.

Love Island star Mike died on Saturday, aged just 26.

Before his shock death, he had filmed for the latest series of Ex On The Beach which was due to air on MTV this year.

However the channel has now confirmed it has cancelled the season.

"We were very sad to hear the tragic news about Mike Thalassitis and our thoughts are with his family and friends," they said in a statement.

MTV continued: "Last year, Mike took part in filming for the next series of Ex on the Beach, which was due to air on MTV later in the year.

"In light of the news of Mike’s death, we have decided not to broadcast the planned tenth season of the show."

An insider told The Sun newspaper of the decision earlier today: "Bosses have decided that in the grand scheme of things that there are more important concerns than pulling a series.

The source added: "They agreed it would be insensitive to Mike’s friends and family to air it.

"It’s not a decision they have taken lightly as series like this do not come cheap."

2019 would've beeen the tenth series of the MTV show, which first made its debut on UK TV in 2014.

The show takes single men and women looking for love and jets them out of the country for a sunny holiday getaway. However, they are joined by their exes to shake things up.

Narrated by Irish comedian Andrew Maxwel, the show sees the exes make surprise appearances either in the hopes of rekindling their love or in a bid to get closure on their former relationship.

Mike, who rose to fame on 2017's Love Island before going on to appear on Celebs Go Dating, is said to have signed up for Ex On The Beach last year.

It followed his break up from The Only Way Is Essex's Megan McKenna.

She took to social media this week to pay tribute to Mike, saying: "Sorry I haven't been on social media but I'm in complete shock and trying to come to terms with this.

"I can't believe I'm even writing this post. My thoughts and prayers are with Mike's family. Rest in peace Mike x"
