The pair, who have a son together, are hardly seeing one another due to the tough training and Emmerdale's constant filming commitments.
Speaking to heat magazine, Matthew said the wedding plans were on hold, explaining: "I've not done anything else apart from [Dancing On Ice]. Literally, when I've not been training up North I've been down here.
"Charley's been down here watching then she drives up for work. We've been passing like two ships in the night. It's been really tough, it's harder than I ever thought it would be."
However the hunky soap actor insisted that the show wasn't all bad, revealing: "I feel fitter than I've felt for ages, even though we're only spending two or three hours on the ice each morning."
Dancing On Ice 2012 continues this Sunday night with the Ultimate Skills Test.
