Gemma Collins could surprise us all on Dancing On Ice

Gemma Collins could prove to be a surprise on Dancing On Ice when it hits screens in 2019.

Gemma, who rose to fame on The Only Way Is Essex, was the first name confirmed for next year's new series.

"I’m so excited, I’m so excited! I know how hard it is, I’ve done my research, don’t worry!" The GC said on signing up. "I'm scared and nervous. I don’t know one how they’re gonna lift me up, and two how fast I can move around that ice, but I really wanna give it a go. "I love the costumes, I want the fun factor. I’m going for it, I’m literally going for it."

Although many were first surprised by the news, Gemma is proving a perhaps unlikely contender.

A source shared to The Sun newspaper from training: "Bosses are really impressed with her.

“She’s put her heart and soul into it. She’s training every day and is embracing the ice.”

However there is still a long way to go until the first live show in January, and Gemma has also been tipped to quit Dancing In Ice before the show even begins.

Bookies BoyleSports have offered odds of 9/2 that the TOWIE star will hang up her skates before she even takes to the ice rink on air next year. Should she defy the odds and stick it out until the live shows, Gemma is an outside 16/1 shot to win.

Meanwhile, Pussycat Doll Melody Thornton and Love Island’s Wes Nelson are currently tied for second favouritism at 9/2 but it is former professional Strictly Come Dancing star James Jordan who is the hot favourite at 11/4.

Aoife Heffron, Spokesperson for BoyleSports commented: “Gemma Collins is known for her diva ways and for quitting reality shows, having called time on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Outta Here just 72 hours into her jungle stint, so it comes as no surprise she is 9/2 to quit Dancing On Ice before the show even hits our screens.”

She added: “Wes Nelson showcased his moves in the Love Island villa and Melody Thornton was known for her dancing abilities in the Pussycat Dolls so we couldn’t separate them at present in the betting so have made them joint second favourites behind professional dancer James Jordan.”

Dancing On Ice will air on ITV in the new year.
