Dancing On Ice head coach Karen Barber has revealed how she has no regrets about standing up to Jason Gardiner's 'unacceptable' behaviour on Sunday night, which saw the pair clash in a live on-air argument. The row, caused by a jibe at Karen's demotion from the judging panel, has seen more than 4,000 complaints build throughout the past week.
Talking about the incident for the first time since last weekend, Karen told The Mirror: “It was unprovoked and when it came out the blue it absolutely knocked me for six. It was a shock to find myself in that situation.
“But it was wrong – and I knew this was a moment when I absolutely HAD to stand up for myself.”
Despite calls from many viewers of the skating show to axe him, Jason kept his position on the panel after a warning from show producers. Recalling her own actions on the night, Karen told the tabloid: "Jason really challenged me. It was so unnecessary. It wasn’t planned… just an instant reaction. I’m glad I didn’t lose my temper and was surprised to find out I’m really a very strong person.
“I don’t regret it. You don’t have to take things like that. You either curl up in a ball or you stand up for yourself."
She added: “I found the strength to say ‘No, that’s not acceptable. I’m not having that.’"
