Ray Quinn wants ITV to stop Dancing On Ice axe

Ray Quinn (Dancing On Ice 2014)

Ray Quinn has said he hopes ITV changes its mind about axing Dancing On Ice.

The singer, who won Dancing On Ice 2014, said he wanted it to return.

“I think the show still has legs, or rather skates. I hope it’s back," Ray said yesterday.

A spokesperson for ITV however insisted that this would definitely be the end for Dancing On Ice.

They commented: "Torvill and Dean are the most successful ice dancing partnership of our generation and brought huge integrity, skill and professionalism to the show and with their departure, it feels like the series has reached its natural end.”

The spokesperson added: “It is always a difficult decision to say goodbye to successful and long running shows but with change comes opportunity and the chance for us to bring in new and exciting programmes for our viewers.”

Jayne and Chris added: “This year will be the 30th anniversary of Bolero and our Olympic Gold medal in Sarajevo, so for us, it seemed a fitting time to say goodbye to Dancing on Ice. We wanted to go out on a high!

But Ray does have the support of Dancing On Ice judge Robin Cousins.

The only judge to have appeared on every series of the show said: “They [Jayne and Chris] were ready to move on, so that’s why it’s finishing up. I am hopeful ITV will look at a new skating show. After all, Dancing On Ice has been very popular and what else is going to go in its place?’"

Whether or nor DOI will return, there's still more skating to come for a lot of this year's stars with the tour.

On the Dancing On Ice live line up are Pop Idol’s Gareth Gates, Hear’Say’s Suzanne Shaw, actress Bonnie Langford, rugby hunk Kyran Bracken and comedian Joe Pasquale.

Finalists Beth Tweddle., Hayley Tamaddon and of course Dancing On Ice all stars winner Ray will join them on the bill.
