Some viewers have branded the X Factor star 'arrogant' over his chances in the competition, although we imagine any supposed arrogance has long since gone after he was in the skate off on Sunday night.
Speaking to Star magazine this week, Ray insists: "I’m never confident.
"I love the show and want to prove myself every week, but as far as winning the show is concerned, it’s down to the public!"
In an interview that took place before the last live show, Ray added: "Thankfully they’ve been on my side so far and I’ve got to enjoy a fantastic journey.”
Before Sunday Ray was the 1/20 odds-on favourite to win, meaning you'd need to spend £20 to win just £1 back in a bet.
But that meant that a lot of viewers felt he was safe and didn't bother to vote, according to Ray himself at least.
“There is a worry that the public might think I’m safe and nobody is," he said.
Ray declared: "I want to win."
He added: "To be able to pick up that trophy would be a dream come true. To be champion of champions would be an absolute honour.”
