Dancing On Ice 2014 results: Jason Gardiner almost sent Ray Quinn home!

Jason Gardiner (Dancing On Ice 2013)

Dancing On Ice judge Jason Gardiner has revealed he was close to sending Ray Quinn home last night.

In yesterday's Dancing On Ice 2014 results, Sam Attwater and Ray landed in the bottom two with Sam finally going home after his fifth skate off.

Earlier in the evening Sam had landed bottom of the judges' scoreboard while Ray had struggled with a flying routine, leaving him off the top of the leaderboard for the first time ever.

But in his weekly blog Jason was critical of Ray's flying routine saying: "Ray and Maria had the potential to make the flying magical but I could tell from his first movement that Ray's heart wasn't in it.

"Sure he always presents himself beautifully, that's Ray! However, this was the first time he didn't commit to the performance. He had a painted on smile they was held in place but he wasn't authentic."

Jason went on to reveal he was close to refusing to vote between Ray and Sam in the skate off completely, explaining: "I've never wanted to abstain from voting but last night was an impossible situation for me. I admire Sam for his strength of character to always bounce back after repeatedly being in the Skate Offs.

"He never sulked or complained but came out each week and gave it his all. He had to learn extra routines for his Skate Offs on top of doing 8 shows a week of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers!

"He took all our critiques seriously and came back fighting. It's a shame the public never got behind him and Vicky but as I've always stated these shows are more about popularity than ability."

Jason added: "Sam has proven that he is a Champion because he conducted himself like one. I applaud him for his quiet dignity and resilience to keep going even though he was the public's outsider. So close but yet so far."

The FINAL episode of Dancing On ice airs next Sunday night on ITV.
