Dancing On Ice 2013: Jason Gardiner cleared by Ofcom over comments

Dancing On Ice 2013 judge Jason Gardiner has been cleared by Ofcom over his comments to Luke Campbell.

The critical ice panelist quipped after a performance from the boxer last month to a Ricky Martin track that his dancing was more “Living La Via Locked-In Syndrome.”

Many fans of the show hitting out at his comment at the expense of those suffering the condition.

One viewer complained online: “Totally tasteless and uncalled for I really hope people complain about that. Locked in syndrome is a horrifying condition and should never ever be used as an insult, especially to insult a celeb on a reality tv show.”

Telly watchdog Ofcom confirmed it had received 24 complaints about the remark since the show aired.

Jason originally defended the comment, tweeting: “I think it’s good to bring taboo topics into the open.”

But he later apologised, telling viewers: “I sincerely apologise for any offence caused. That was never my intention.”

A spokesperson for TV watchdog Ofcom today confirmed that the complaints had not been upheld.

They said: "Ofcom decided the remark was justified by the context.

"What he said did not exceed the expectations of the audience as Jason Gardiner is well-known for his acerbic comments about contestants and is often quite critical of them."
