The launch of The Voice UK on BBC One last night was watched by a huge average audience of 8.4 million viewers, but it wasn't enough for it to beat tough competition from the return of Britain's Got Talent.
The Voice, which features coaches Jessie J, Will.i.am, Sir Tom Jones and Danny O'Donoghue, was watched by an average of 8.42 million from 7PM to 8:20PM.
Last night's first episode of so-called 'blind' auditions peaked with an impressive 9.8 million viewers.
Britain's Got Talent meanwhile saw an average of audience of exactly one million more, with 9.42 million viewers tuning in, peaking with a whopping 11.5 million viewers.
With ITV1+1 viewers included, Britain's Got Talent rises to an audience of 10 million, peaking with over 12 million viewers.
The two shows overlapped for 20 minutes from 8PM-8:20PM, where The Voice stayed strong with 9 million compared to Britain's Got Talent's 6.5 million at the same time.
