Britain's Got Talent needed Simon Cowell back, say Ant and Dec

Ant and Dec

Britain's Got Talent hosts Ant and Dec have revealed they felt the show "needed" Simon Cowell's return this year.

The Geordie duo, who have been fronting the series since it began in 2007, told the Daily Star Sunday that the music mogul knows what viewers were thinking.

Ant explained: “I think the show really needed Simon back. He’s the best judge out there and he has the uncanny knack of saying exactly what the viewers are thinking.

“I think last year was a little underwhelming with the talent but I think we will be back with a bang this year.”

He added: “Simon has said he wants to find more diversity this year. He wants to uncover the acts that are out there who wouldn’t normally audition for the show.”

Having been fronting the show for six years now, the pair have become the only stars on one of Simon's shows not to ever be axed.

Dec joked: “It’s almost like we have some embarrassing pics of him or something. We know where all the bodies are hidden, put it that way.”

Britain's Got Talent 2012 will return to TV later in the year.
