Paul Potts speaks out after Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions exit

Paul Potts has spoken out following his return to Britain’s Got Talent.

BGT series one winner and multi-platinum selling artist Paul Potts appeared in the first episode of the new ‘Olympics of Talent’ on Saturday night.

Paul rose to fame on BGT on Series 1 in 2007, becoming the show’s first ever winner.

Returning to the stage at the weekend, Paul gave an incredible performance of Parla piu piano.

But judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams were left stunned when he failed to make it into the Top 3 of the audience vote.

Taking to Twitter after the show, Paul said he was “frustrated with myself” following the performance.

He explained: “Was little frustrated with myself as after 15 run throughs, Production gave me a change of camera direction on my way to the stage &it left me looking for the camera that came from different direction. Shouldnt have allowed that to make me think, as I need to feel when performing.”

Paul added: “I blamed myself. I self analyse after every performance and I can pick out every error. My job is to do everything I can to avoid slipping up due to these things including technical issues.”

The talented singer also hit back at trolls who accused him of “sulking” as the results were revealed.

He said: “To those that thought I was sulking – that’s what I look like most of the time lol I can prove it with this still from the original audition: I don’t do fake smiles, but it doesn’t mean I am grumpy sulky or feeling entitled.”

Meanwhile, Amanda Holden reacted to the result telling Heart breakfast: “I was stunned by the voting, as I said on Saturday. He is our first ever Britain’s Got Talent champion, he is an absolute trooper, a gorgeous man, very talented.

“He had nothing to be disappointed about – he was absolutely brilliant, he brought the house down and I’m stunned he didn’t go through.”

The first results of Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions saw Ukrainian sand performance artist Kseniya Simonova and daredevil duo Bello and Annaliese Nock making it through.

Kseniya won the first golden buzzer of the series from Amanda Holden while Bello and Annaliese won the superfan audience vote.

2012 Britain’s Got Talent winner Ashleigh & Sully finished in third in the viewer vote with dance act Boogie Storm in second place.

Also taking part in the first episode were singer Connie Talbot, who first appeared on Britain’s Got Talent when she was six years old, and Indian dancers Bad Salsa.

They were joined by Australian comedy duo The Nelson Twins and Indonesian Magician and illusionist The Sacred Riana.
