Thousands applied and auditioned for the new series, which will see one act walk away with a massive £250,000 cash prize in a grand final.

There were auditions across the country throughout January and February with all sorts of acts going before the panel in the hope of getting a yes.

They included the usual singers and dancers plus reports of a ‘Hero’ police dog act and a shocking knife thrower.

Only a few hundred have made the cut after showing off their talents in front of this year’s Britain’s Got Talent judges, Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, David Walliams and Amanda Holden.

Five lucky acts won themselves a guaranteed place in the live semi-finals thanks to the return of the golden buzzer twist.

Each of the judges – plus returning hosts Ant and Dec – were again able to hit the golden buzzer once during the auditions to send one act straight through to the next stage.

The rest of the successful contestants from the auditions had a nervous wait as the judges decided their fate this month.

With only limited spaces in the live shows, the panel had to agree on who to cut and who to keep.

David joked on Twitter backstage from filming: “Sadly I can’t make the #Oscars tonight as I am filming Britain’s Got Talent. Please tweet me if I win anything.”

Amanda tweeted: “@bgt deliberation/ reveal day ♥️???”

Meanwhile the BGT live show finalists short list is typically revealed around May with the live shows later in the Spring.
