Ireland’s Got Talent judge Jason Byrne ACCIDENTALLY presses Golden Buzzer

Comedian thought to be first Got Talent judge worldwide to 'waste' their power

An Ireland’s Got Talent hopeful branded “so bad” by Louis Walsh was sent through to its live shows when judge Jason Byrne ACCIDENTALLY pressed the Golden Buzzer.

As you’ll know from Britain’s Got Talent, the Golden Buzzer gives each judge the power to reward one act with a guaranteed place in the semi-finals.

However, it’s not always used wisely – as Jason demonstrated on the Irish version of the show yesterday.

Contestant Martin McGuinness introduced himself as a farmer, dressed in a flat cap, brown coat and wellies.

He briefly exited the stage to get in to costume, leaving panellists Louis, Jason, Michelle Visage and Denise Van Outen guessing what his act would be.

The foursome were visibly surprised when the 51-year-old returned in drag to sing Cilla Black hit ‘You’re My World’.

Louis and Denise were unimpressed with his flat vocals and quickly hit their red buzzers, but Michelle and Jason enjoyed the performance and began waving their arms along.

In an attempt to end the audition, Louis reached over and pressed Michelle’s buzzer, while Denise tried to do the same with Jason.

The comedian wasn’t having it and moved to block her by putting his leg up on the desk.

In his haste, his foot knocked the Golden Buzzer by mistake, instantly putting Martin through to the live shows.

Louis was horrified by the result, fuming: “That is such a waste of a Golden Buzzer. Now you cannot pick anybody else for the rest of the series.”

Martin reassured Jason, saying: “Don’t worry, I won’t let you down my darling.”

“You will!” protested Louis. “You cannot sing! He has no vocal ability!”

“It’s just the singing was so bad. I mean, if Cilla Black heard that, she’d be spinning in her grave!”

Later, while chatting with his fellow judges backstage, Jason revealed his initial confusion over what happened.

“I thought the golden button situation was part of his act!” he exclaimed. “I thought, that’s really good!”

According to broadcaster TV3, Jason is the first Got Talent judge ever worldwide to press the Golden Buzzer by accident.

Ireland’s Got Talent launched on TV3 earlier this month as the first Irish expansion of Simon Cowell’s smash hit talent contest.

Louis appears on the show as its lead judge in addition to his long-held role on The X Factor UK.
