BGT's Jamie Lee Harrison has revealed he was turned down by The X Factor.

24 year old singer songwriter Jamie from Newcastle wowed the judges on Britain's Got Talent this year, getting a much better reaction than his X Factor audition

Jamie sang REM's 'Everybody Hurts' and impressed the judges and audience with the powerful performance.

Simon Cowell concluded: "This is what I've been waiting for.

"I think we've just scratched the surface here, you have a great voice... I heard real soul. You're exactly the kind of person I want to find when we make these shows."

But it turns out that BGT wasn't Jamie's first shot, previously appearing on The X Factor in 2013.

Simon wasn't on the panel then, with Gary Barlow instead heading up the judges.

And while Jamie did get a yes through to bootcamp, he didn't make it any further.

Jamie told the Daily Star newspaper: “When I went on X Factor it was Gary Barlow.

"If Simon had been there I don’t know what would have happened. I guess it just wasn’t my time back then.”

Speaking all about his audition last week, Jamie recalled how he was left shocked by the huge reaction from the judges and live audience.

He explained: "When I’m singing, I sometimes get a bit lost in the song and for just a few short seconds, I kind of forgot I was on Britain’s Got Talent.

“At the end of the song, I opened my eyes and realised what was going on and a wave of emotion came over me. It was a lot to take in. I was excited, nervous and happy. I don’t even know what my face was doing. I was just shocked by the reaction.”

With four yeses, Jamie sailed through to the next round and is one of the favourites in the live shows later this week.

If he does make the live final, Jamie has something special planned.

He teased to the ITV website: “I feel that maybe I didn’t show my whole vocal range off in the first Audition, so I’d just love to show people my vocal range and pick another song that is close to my heart, that people can relate to and hopefully get the public on board."

Britain's Got Talent 2017 continues tonight on ITV.
