Britain's Got Talent's Calum Scott is on course to crack the Top 10 more than a year after his audition.

Last year's finalist, who had been backed by Simon Cowell with a golden buzzer, released his cover of Dancing On My Own back in March.

Without the help of major backing, the song took its sweet time to climb the charts but peaked in the Top 10 of iTunes recently and made the official charts.

The song has since experienced a brand new climb and is currently on course to make its debut in the official charts Top 10, currently at Number 8 in today's midweek update and up to Number 2 on iTunes.

The song's success gave Calum a boost when he entered talks with record companies earlier this year after Simon Cowell decided not to sign him up following the BGT final.

“I didn’t get picked up by Syco but the ball didn’t get dropped, which is something I was really happy about," Calum said previously. "I was worried people would think that’s it, done, I had my few moments of fame. One of things I did think was that if I wasn’t picked up by Syco, maybe that was it for me.

"But I’ve been given some amazing opportunities. I feel everything happens for a reason. They didn’t pick me up and that’s fine.

"But I’ve appealed to other people and maybe I'll find my home with a different label and after some of the conversations I’ve been having, that may be the case sooner than you think. It’s super exciting times.”

And Calum was right about news coming soon, announcing last month that he had signed with Universal Music Group's Capitol Records label.

"SO stoked to announce that I'm now a SIGNED RECORDING ARTIST to @CapitolRecords @UMG Thank you to all involved," he tweeted.

We can't wait for more music!
