The Garnett Family have opened up about their story ahead of tonight's Britain's Got Talent live show.
The four piece, made up of mum Helen and daughters Rachel and twins Abi and Anna, wowed the judges at the auditions with a cover of Jess Glynne.
Helen revealed at the time how the group had enjoyed singing together when times were tough for the girls growing up.
In a new interview today, Helen has told how her husband left the family when Abi and Anna were just months old and Rachel only three.
Bringing up her daughters alone and on little money, Helen recalled: "It was the lowest point of my life. I spent months crying every night after the girls had gone to bed."
She explained: “I’d food shop as cheaply as I could and make home-cooked meals that I could stretch out. I’d buy the kids clothes from charity shops and I had a friend with older daughters who would bring black bin bags round full of hand-me-downs.”
Helen continued: “I thought that was it for me, that I would never be anything other than a mother for my kids and that I would live the rest of my life on my own. But I decided that wasn’t the future I wanted for my children and I grew determined to survive.”
Helen worked hard to turn her family's life around and is now happily remarried.
“What’s happening now with BGT is the culmination of everything we’ve worked for as a family," she said. “I just hope what we’ve been through will be an inspiration.
"We’re proof that if you have ambition and you make the best of your life you can achieve anything.”
Up on this evening's (Monday) show alongside The Garnett Family are sword swallower Alexandr Magala and dancers Another Kind of Blue.
Joining them are David Walliams' golden buzzer act Ian & Anne Marshall, dancers Mythical PSM, singer Rachael Wooding and ballet couple Shannon & Peter.
