Britain's Got Talent 2015: Ella Shaw opens up about alopecia battle

Britain’s Got Talent contestant Ella Shaw spoke to ITV's Lorraine this week about losing her hair when she was younger and choosing a name for her fans.

Speaking to Lorraine Kelly yesterday morning, Ella said: “It was quite a hard time, I lost all the hair off my head when I was in my last year of primary school. It was really hard but I wouldn’t have wished it not to happen… It boosted my confidence and I want to try and spread the message that there is light at the end of the tunnel and things will be OK in the end.”

She continued: “It kind of showed me the other side of life from being picked on, it now made me a better person to not pick on somebody else because I know what it felt like to be at the bottom so I wouldn’t take it back for the world.”

Chatting about being on Britain’s Got Talent, the 18 year old - who has also been on The X Factor - said: “I kind of thought, ‘No I want to do it by myself’ and I was a bit stubborn about it I suppose but then after watching the show for so many years I always sat and watched it and thought ‘Mum I want to do that, I want to be up there, I can sing that song’... I think this was the year that I’ve worked hard and I think I’m ready and I’ve absolutely loved my experience so far.”

She added: “The next step is to find out if I’m through to the live semi finals but I’ve had an amazing response on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook… I’ve been so overwhelmed, I need to think of a fan name now so I need some suggestions!”
