Ant and Dec can breathe a sigh of relief today - as Simon Cowell has suggested that their Britain's Got Talent presenting role is safe in the wake of Dermot O'Leary's X Factor exit.
Last month O'Leary shocked fans by revealing he's left The X Factor after eight years - although there's conflicting reports on whether he quit or was sacked.
So it was to be expected that someone cheekily asked Cowell if he's ever considered axing Ant and Dec from his other show Britain's Got Talent at the press launch for its ninth series yesterday.
Alesha Dixon was offended by the reporter's notion, joking: "Remove him immediately!"
However, it got the attention of Stephen Mulhern, who turned to face the audience as Cowell laughed: "Someone’s smiling in the front row!"
Unfortunately for the frontman of ITV2 spin-off Britain's Got More Talent, Cowell proceeded to pledge his backing to the ever-popular Geordie duo.
"I love Stephen, and he does a brilliant job on Britain’s Got More Talent, it is a great show," he said. "But I do love working with Ant and Dec on the show and they like doing it."
Meanwhile, the media mogul remains tight-lipped on persistent rumours that O'Leary will be replaced by former Xtra Factor duo Olly Murs and Caroline Flack.
Speaking to Tellymix, he said: "I cant say anything about that, but we will soon!"
