X Factor 2014 spoilers: BGT's Steph Edwards 'encouraged to audition'

Luminites (Britain's Got Talent 2013)

Britain's Got Talent finalist Stephanie Edwards was encouraged to audition for The X Factor this year, it's been claimed.

We told you at the weekend that Steph had auditioned for The X Factor, singing for judges Cheryl Cole, Louis Walsh, Mel B and - not for the first time - Simon Cowell.

The Sun now reports that X Factor producers "encouraged" Steph to audition after her appearance on BGT last year.

She was the lead singer and lone female member of finalists The Luminites, who were signed to Sony Music and even released a track.

But the five piece split up earlier this year leaving Steph to go it alone.

"It’s the first time a BGT finalist has appeared on The X Factor," a source said today. "Steph has already been sent through to boot camp and viewers are bound to recognise her. The group didn’t work out but Simon is clearly a fan so she was encouraged to reapply."

The supposed insider added "It’s bound to arouse more suspicions about how real the audition process is.

“Clearly she didn’t just walk off the street and audition. Her rival contestants are also already worried that she’ll be given special treatment.”

The X Factor will air on ITV later this year.
