Simon Cowell skipped out on Britain's Got Talent 2014 yesterday for a trans-Atlantic dash to see the birth of his son.
The music mogul raced some 3,500 miles from London to New York for the birth, which was two weeks before the expected date.
“It has all been a bit of a race against time to be honest," a friend told the Daily Mirror newspaper. “Normally when a dad-to-be gets a call, there are a few miles down the road - not on the other side of the Atlantic.”
The rush saw Simon skip the last round of Britain's Got Talent auditions being held at the Hammersmith Apollo yesterday.
David Walliams, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon were informed of the news by a message from the BGT boss which read: “I’m sorry I can’t be here today. My son has decided to arrive early. You all have a big responsibility to find some great talent today without me.”
Simon's baby boy with Lauren Silverman was eventually born a 10:42PM last night (UK time) and has been named Eric, after Simon's dad.
The very happy first time dad tweeted last night: "Very happy to say Eric was born at 17.45pm [EST]. Healthy and handsome."
However David had another suggestion for the name.
He teased: "Huge congratulations to @SimonCowell and Lauren Silverman on the birth of their son. They have named him David Sinitta Louis-Walsh Cowell."
