Britain's Got Talent 2013: Aliki Chrysochou wows judges

Aliki Chrysochou (Britain's Got Talent 2013)

Singer Aliki Chrysochou was one of the stand outs in tonight's Britain's Got Talent 2013 auditions.

Try outs in London end on a high, as the 27-year-old wowed Simon Cowell and his fellow judges with her voice.

The half Greek, half British singer was brought up in Cyprus, and told the panel before her performance: “I am blessed that I’m here today.

“A few years ago I was diagnosed with encephalitis.

“Everything I learnt when I was a baby was all gone — all co-ordination and my speech. I couldn’t speak, read, write or walk. My mother had to do everything — feed me and bathe me. She was my voice when I couldn’t speak.

“When I was at the hospital one night she started singing to me. It was the first time I responded — by humming — after a very long time.”

She went on: “Everything happened in a matter of ten days.

“I couldn’t speak, walk or write. It was like a switch had turned off.

“Singing was the only thing I could do after I recovered. I can’t believe I’m here.”

After singing Evanescence’s Bring Me To Life, the crowd of the London Palladium are on their feet.

Amanda Holden gushed: "I can’t imagine what your mum must be thinking. The words were so poignant — the song was for your mum.”

David Walliams said: "When you came on I thought I hope your voice is as beautiful as how you look, and it was. It was incredible.”

And Simon added: “There’s something very moving. Having heard your story, everyone wanted you to do well.”

He added: “There’s something special about her.”

Britain's Got Talent 2013 airs tonight at 7:30PM on ITV.
