Facebook voting won't be returning to Celebrity Big Brother 2012, Channel 5 has confirmed.

Big Brother became the first UK TV show to accept votes via Facebook last year, but withdrew voting via the social networking website last week.

Channel 5 has now confirmed that voting via Facebook will not be returning for Celebrity Big Brother, which starts next Wednesday.

Viewers will still be able to vote via landlines and mobiles, using the new shortcode numbers.

A spokesman said: “Due to its popularity we have been experiencing some technical issues with the Facebook Big Brother app and as a result we have taken the precaution of suspending Facebook voting this week along with the ability to purchase any further Facebook credits.

“Channel 5 is in the process of refunding those viewers who may have any unused voting credits and, in order to create widespread awareness of the issue, a live announcement was made on Big Brother’s Bit on the Side on C5, and on Facebook and our website. We can confirm that all other voting routes for the programme continue in the normal advertised way.”

Those with unused votes should check the official Big Brother UK facebook page or head to channel5.com/bbrefunds.
