Emma Willis says she hopes that Big Brother will get to celebrate its anniversary in 2020.

Next summer will mark 20 years since Big Brother’s UK debut, originally airing its opening episode of the first series on July 18, 2000.

And Emma would love to be a part of any potential celebrations.

“If they did anything, I’d be devastated not to be involved in it,” she said this week. “It’s been a huge part of my life, both working on it and watching it.”

Emma told The Sun newspaper: “It needs an anniversary, a big birthday. To never do it again would be a terrible shame.

“It has to find its feet and be celebratory and fun.”

2019 is set to be the first year since 2000 that Big Brother has not been on British TV after Channel 5 axed the series last autumn.

Channel boss Ben Frow recently confirmed there were no plans to bring the show back, saying that the “expensive” programme “had had its day”.

However Big Brother spin-off show host and former Celebrity Big Brother winner Rylan Clark-Neal is campaigning for a comeback.

Rylan said previously: “It’s a massive part of my life and I know it can be even better with the right TLC.

“I’d do everything in my power to make sure CBB and the civilian BB are still on the air.”

He vowed: “I will fight to the death to make sure it never goes away. If I had the money and owned the channel, I would buy the programme and film it in my garden.”

For now, Emma will soon be back on screens as host of new Channel 4 series The Circle, which starts live on Channel 4, Tuesday 24th September at 9:15pm.

The social media based game show made its debut last year and quickly proved a hit.

Emma explained: “The way they will win that is either by being themselves or by pretending to be someone else who they think would be the most popular person in the Circle. The Circle is not a circle. It’s a block of flats, and they all live on their own and they never meet until the end of the game.”
