Former Big Brother host for more than 10 years, Davina McCall, has praised her replacement Brian Dowling. Speaking to the Daily Star about the cheeky Irishman getting the primetime hosting gig on Channel 5, Davina described the 33-year-old as "the perfect man for it".
"Brian is a natural choice as the new host and will be a very popular one I’m sure," she said. “He has buckets of personality and tons of TV experience. I know he’ll be a real laugh and very watchable – I’m backing him all the way!”
Davina previously tipped Brian to get the job, saying she wanted to see a "true proper fan" of the reality show take over from her.
Describing her decision to leave the channel last year, Davina said: "I’ve done my 11 years and it’s time for a fresh channel, a fresh start, a fresh look, fresh feel."
The brunette telly host continued: "I love ‘Big Brother’, I still think it’s got legs. I really believe that it’s got a future and Endemol will make it good, I know they will. But I’ve said goodbye and I spent a year saying good bye and I went on and I’ve got other programmes now."
Davina previously said that the move to Channel 5 was what the struggling show needed. "They’ll be able to be so rude and that’s what the show needed. It needed to go back to basics where they could say anything," she said.
Brian said he was "chuffed" to be hosting the new series from next month, adding: "I am so excited about this opportunity to host one of the most talked about shows on TV".
Presenting pal Emma Willis, who will be hosting new spin-off Big Brother's Bit On The Side, said: “I’m over the moon. I can’t wait to get stuck in.”
Channel 5’s "new-look BB" starts next month.
