Former X Factor presenter Kate Thornton is reportedly the 'favourite' to host Celebrity Big Brother on Channel 5 when it starts next month. According to show sources, bosses have been considering a number of potential presenters for the new series.
We revealed last month that Kate had been tipped to front the show, with a source telling us at the time: "Kate has a proven track record hosting top reality shows. Big Brother should be a walk in the park for her."
The 38-year-old, who was just last week axed from ITV1's day time Loose Women show, and is now said to be the favourite to join Channel 5.
Kate started her career hosting Pop Idol spin-off Pop Idol Extra on ITV2, before going on to front the first three series of The X Factor on ITV2. After getting very publicly sacked from the huge reality series however, Kate's career in primetime telly has stalled - she was axed from new ITV1 reality show 71 Degrees North after just one series.
A source told ChristopherCouture today: "There have been quite a few presenters, both recognised and relatively unknown, that have been considered for the job as the new Big Brother host.
"Kate had instant appeal, with being the former host of The X Factor and now a former anchor on Loose Women.
"It hit the headlines recently that Kate had been 'axed' as a Loose Women anchor, but they left by mutual decision. Kate loved working on Loose Women, but she knew that being the host of the new Big Brother was an opportunity she couldn't miss."
The insider added: "I think it's safe to say Kate is now firmly the favourite and at the top of the list."
Other names linked to the job include former Big Brother star Brian Dowling and Big Brother's Little Brother host Emma Willis.
