Big Brother 2011 on Channel 5 will not have a live feed, it has been suggested, but rather online video clips delivered by an interactive facebook app. The facebook app will also deliver "real time news" and give users the chance to effect life in the house by voting, including taking evictions as previously reported.
Channel 5's Big Brother producers previously admitted that live feed for the series was still "being discussed" and seemed coy to commit to it moving to Channel 5 with the rest od the show.
In an inteview with New Media Age, digital director James Tatam revealed a 24/7 stream from the house had been replaced by "video highlights". Of course highlights carefully picked and edited by the production team.
He said: "It has become clear over the last year that social media sits side by side with watching TV, more so than traditional websites ever have."
There are also plans to make more use of YouTube - which blocked clips of the show on Channel 4 - as well as hopes for iPhone and iPad apps for when the show returns next month.
The live feed returned for the final series of the show on Channel 4 last year after its axe in 2009 sparked complaints from viewers and fans.
Celebrity Big Brother 2011 airs in August.
