Makers of Big Brother Endemol have revealed plans to introduce Facebook voting on Big Brother shows around the world, following a successful roll-out on the German version. The Facebook application would allow users to vote in evictions and other public polls.
Voting via Facebook won't be free, but rather cost around 40-50p a vote by making use of the Facebook credits system, which can be purchased using Debit or Credit cards, PayPal or via a mobile phone.
Dr Georg Ramme, head of commercial at Endemol in Germany, commented on the move: “Being able to vote using Facebook will give Big Brother fans a whole new way to get involved in the decision about who leaves the house.
“The Facebook voting app is designed for a generation of fans who have grown up with social media, regularly chat about reality TV on Facebook and comment on events in these programs. It is this usage of social media that made us decide to expand online offers for our popular TV programs.”
Christian Hernandez, Facebook’s director of business development, added: “On a daily basis we see millions of people engaging with their favourite TV shows via Facebook.
“The Big Brother voting application is an innovative way for viewers to support their favourite candidates via Facebook and we are excited to see Endemol and [German broadcaster] RTL II bring it to market.”
We reported in February that there were plans to launch a similar Facebook voting system for The X Factor last year.
