'Thousands' of Big Brother 2011 wannabes flock to London for latest open auditions

Big Brother

Thousands of Big Brother 2011 wannabes turned up at Arsenal’s Emirates stadium in North London yesterday for the latest round of open auditions for the new Channel 5 show. According to the Daily Star (no bias there then), some hopefuls even camped overnight to be first int he queue.

(Because we all know the selection process is first come first serve, of course)

One of the hopes was 18-year-old Katie, who sounds like your typical Big Brother contestant. The fake boobed potential housemate told the newspaper: “People have slated me on Facebook for doing glamour shoots so I want to prove I’m not a bimbo. Girls like me have been stereotyped by The Only Way Is Essex so I want to show people I’m different.”

Patrick McDonnell meanwhile sounds less like your usual Big Brother housemate. Dressed in a Union Jack outfit, the 43-year-old said: “I’m proud of our soldiers so I’m doing this for them. And I’ve plenty more Union Jack outfits planned if I get to go in the house.”

Another hopeful boasted: “I’d bring a lot of fun to the house. The maddest thing I’ve ever done was when I ran out of the house with no clothes on. It was my birthday so I thought I might as well.”

One of the wannabes had travelled from Manchester to try out, after being turned down at the previous auditions last weekend.

Meanwhile Big Brother producer Katy Smith explained: "For the house to work it has to have a mixture of characters.

"We are trying to make it a bit more authentic and would love to find a few more naïve characters, who are not all about fame and money. Our message this year is 'be yourself'."

Big Brother 2011 returns to Channel 5 in September.
