Big Brother 2018 will be back on Channel 5 this summer but what can we expect from the show?

The new series could well be the last ever to air on UK TV. The current contract between Channel 5 and programme makers Endemol expires at the end of the year.

But when will Big Brother 2018 be on TV and what's in store for the summer? Here's all the rumours so far...

Big changes for Big Brother

Amid ongoing speculation over the show's future, the upcoming 'civilian' series is set for a major overhaul.

Bit On The Side host Rylan Clark-Neal confirmed that there "are changes coming", and suggested the show could go back to basics. Will it once again be a real social experiment?

The former CBB winner explained: “I think it’s time to make Big Brother what it was. I’ve always had one million per cent faith in the format and that it can be the greatest show on telly.”

Sources have claimed that the series will see a refresh.

An insider told the Daily Star on Sunday that the summer show will ditch "manipulative tasks" and allow drama to unfold "naturally".

They explained: "They want it to be a true social experiment because they realise they have lost that element along the way."

As part of the revamps, Paul Osborne is joining as creative director.

He was previously series editor and executive producer on Big Brother between 2005 and 2008 when it aired on Channel 4.

Big Brother makers Endemol Shine UK confirmed: “As with any long-running series, creative leadership changes regularly. It’s great to have such an experienced and brilliant creative director working on the summer series.”

Big Brother 2018 start date

Big Brother typically launches in June on Channel 5 but rumour has it could launch as late as AUGUST to avoid the new series of Love Island.

There have even been rumours that Big Brother may not begin until September, with the Celebrity series airing beforehand.

Officially as of right now, Channel 5 have only said Big Brother will air in the "summer".

Both Emma Willis and Rylan Clark-Neal will return to host the main show and spin-off respectively.

However it's been suggested that current spin-off brand Bit On The Side will be 'axed' in favour of a return of Little Brother.
