Rylan reacts to Celebrity Big Brother 'axe' claims

Rylan Clark-Neal has reacted to claims that Celebrity Big Brother and Big Brother could be axed by Channel 5.

The current contract between programme makers Endemol and Channel 5 comes to an end after the summer series.

With falling ratings, it had been reported that Channel 5 won't renew their deal for any more series.

Rylan says he's being left in the dark and admitted: "If it didn’t come back I would be utterly devastated."

“I can’t imagine TV without Big Brother," Rylan told The Sun newspaper. “I’d love to see it make 20 years — of course I would."

Rylan said that "are changes coming" to the show in summer to help it compete against the likes of Love Island.

The former CBB winner explained: “I think it’s time to make Big Brother what it was.

“I’ve always had one million per cent faith in the format and that it can be the greatest show on telly.”

Sources say that discussions between Channel 5 and Endemol remain ongoing as things stand.

Deadline reported last month (February) that there was "no truth" (yet) in the rumours that the show had already been axed.

"Both companies are still in discussions over future series when the contract for the house-based entertainment format ends later this year," they added.

A spokesperson for Channel 5 said at the time: "Channel 5 are committed to a further series of Big Brother and of Celebrity Big Brother later this year."

Even if Channel 5 does decide to drop Big Brother after 2018, it may well continue on.

The show was originally axed by Channel 4 before Channel 5 picked it up and it's possible another channel - or streaming service like Netflix - may takeover the rights.

For now, Celebrity Big Brother and Big Brother will return in the summer.

Emma Willis will host the main shows, alongside Rylan on spin-off Bit On The Side.
