Celebrity Big Brother and Big Brother are reportedly set to be axed at the end of 2018.
The current contract between programme makers Endemol and Channel 5 comes to an end after the summer series.
With falling ratings, it's been reported that Channel 5 won't renew their deal for any more series.
An insider explained to The Daily Star newspaper: "There have been conversations between the execs about not renewing the contract for both Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother.
"It would be the end of an era but they feel the time is right to end."
However there is a small glimmer of hope for Big Brother fans.
"There is still time for the bosses at Channel 5 to change their mind but it is not looking likely," the source explained. "Even if they drop it, another channel or a streaming service may decide to pick it up in the future."
A spokesperson for Channel 5 declined to comment but insiders said the claims were just 'speculation'.
Celebrity Big Brother and its 'civilian' sister show Big Brother have been airing for the best part of 20 years now.
On Big Brother being renewed beyond 2018, Channel 5 boss Ben Frow admitted last year it was still up in the air.
"We're going to have a discussion about it. I need to know, like I would with any commission, what are the plans for the future? How will it be creatively renewed? How is it still important to me?" he explained.
He added: "It's a very established brand, a very successful brand but there's a big shiny new show on the block called Love Island. We need to take a good long look at Big Brother and go what does it look like for the future?"
Frow said that he wanted Channel 5 shows that were "relevant for now" and "exciting for viewers".
"I don't think Big Brother just because it's a big brand should be any exception to the rule," he concluded.
For now, Celebrity Big Brother 2018 continues nightly on Channel 5.
A new 'civilian' Big Brother series will air in the summer, followed by the potential last ever Celebrity Big Brother series.
