Celebrity Big Brother hit by Ofcom complaints over racism, homophobia and sexism

Celebrity Big Brother Summer 2017

Celebrity Big Brother 2017 has been hit with a raft of complaints to TV watchdog Ofcom.

A week into the series the show has already received a number of official objections to the telly regulator.

The biggest issue brought up by viewers was Paul Danan and Karthik Nagesan's 'race row' following an argument where Paul pronounced Karthik's name wrong.

The pair clashed on Celebrity Big Brother 2017 over the weekend, leading to a clash over supposed racism.

Big Brother invited Paul into the Diary Room and said: "Paul, Big Brother just wanted to call you in regarding your ongoing conversations with Karthik. During your conversation, Karthik misheard you and thought you had said Qatar."

"I didn't, I said Kartha," Paul insisted.

Big Brother continued: "With that in mind, it's understandable that Karthik may have thought you were potentially using racist language as it's the name of a Middle Eastern airline and could therefore be seen as demeaning and inappropriate."

Karthik and Paul later cleared up any issues surrounding the comments about racism in the house. Karthik told Paul; “Reset. I said a few things. You said a few things. Now we are, reset.”

Paul responded saying, “I apologise for getting worked up.”

More Ofcom complaints concerned apparent sexism, bullying and promotion of alcohol and substance abuse in last night's episode where Sarah Harding rowed with Paul.

More complaints alleged a supposed homophobic comment, objected to food waste due when Jordan Davies carried a fish around for a task and Brandi Glanville’s revealing outfit on launch night.

Accusations of sexist language and even claims of sexual assault were also made by complainants, The Sun newspaper reports.

A spokesperson for Ofcom told the tabloid: “We will assess these complaints before deciding whether or not to investigate.”

A rep for Celebrity Big Brother declined to comment.
