The new series of Big Brother and Love Island will go head to head in the schedules next month.

Channel 5 and ITV have today both confirmed the launch dates for their respective series

Big Brother will start its 18th series at 8:30PM on Channel 5, allowing it to get a head start on Love Island which kicks off its third season at 9PM over on ITV2.

Love Island will then continue week nights at 9PM with a new live spin-off Aftersun airing on Sunday nights.

Big Brother will air every night with a second live planned for the Friday after launch on June 9.

Love Island and Big Brother's history as reality telly rivals goes back many years, with the shows previously facing one another when Love Island was a celebrity series on ITV and BB aired on Channel 4.

In 2015, ITV revived Love Island with 'normal' folk on ITV2 and its proved a hit, with last year's run enjoying an average audience of around twice the first series.

However, while Love Island did enjoy some wins over Big Brother in the 2016 daily ratings, the Channel 5 series still came out a clear winner on average over the summer.

Whether or not it can keep that title this year remains to be seen...
