Channel 5 this evening has confirmed that reality series Big Brother will return on the channel this summer. The Guardian reports that the broadcaster finally signed off on a deal with programme makers Endemol today which will see the show come back from the dead after being axed by Channel 4 last year.
It is currently expected that a new series of Celebrity Big Brother will air in the summer for four weeks while Big Brother 12 will follow for a massive 12-week-run in September on the newly revamped channel.
The deal, which is understood to be five years long, will see the show revert to its typical schedule in 2012, with a celebrity series in January and a longer series over the summer with 'normal' housemates.
With just months to go now until the show is back on air, the late start has seen Channel 5 quickly looking for celebrities to fill the house with for the August return. Amongst the names tipped to be on the channel's wish list are former Harrods boss Mohamed Al-Fayed and US star Charlie Sheen. Sexy The Only Way Is Essex star Amy Childs and Prince Harry’s on-off girlfriend Chelsy Davy are also thought to be wanted for the programme.
Ex-Sky Sports presenter Andy Gray and zeleb star Peaches Geldof also appear in the Daily Star's ideal celebrity line up, which we reported on a few days ago.
A source revealed: “We’ve got our wish list of celebrities that we want and we’re going to do everything we can to persuade them to enter the house."
Channel 5 owner Northern & Shell declined to comment on the news this evening.
