Channel 5 and Endemol have signed a five-year deal which will see Big Brother return to telly on the channel, it was reported today. The reality series could be back on our screens by as soon as August this year with a Celebrity run, according to the Daily Star Sunday.
The tabloid claims that the deal - which will be confirmed in the next week - will see a celebrity show in the summer and a normal series kick off from September this year.
A source told the newspaper: “We are giving television fans exactly what they wanted – Big Brother back on our screens this summer.
“The deal will be signed over the next couple of days but everything has been agreed. It’s a really exciting time for Channel 5 and everyone is determined to make this new era of Big Brother the best yet.”
Despite the change in channel, it seems as though litte elsse about the hit series will be changed. “It’s going to have a bit of a revamp with some new features but all the favourite items will be back including the 24-hour live feed," a source explained. “Everyone is really excited about the relaunch and we’re confident it will be unmissable viewing again this summer, like it has been every summer for more than a decade.
“There will be a lot of loyal Big Brother fans out there who will be equally excited by news of its return.”
Big Brother was axed by Channel 4 last year after more than a decade on the box, becoming the UK's biggest reality show in its heyday. With declining ratings in its most recent series however, the broadcaster cut the programme after more than 15 series.
